Janice Starlin (Susan Cabot) is the founder and owner of a large cosmetics company. When her firm's sales begin to drop after it becomes apparent to her customers that she is aging, she decides to serve as human subject to Scientist Eric Zinthrop (Michael Mark), who has been able to extract enzymes from the royal jelly of the queen wasp that can reverse the aging process. Displeased with the slowness of the results she breaks into the scientist's laboratory and injects herself with extra doses of the formula. As a result she gets twenty years younger in a single weekend, but soon discovers that she is periodically transformed into a murderous queen wasp.

Tim Burton is an acclaimed film director, who has created many great films, such as: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Mars Attacks! (1996), Batman Returns (1992), Edward Scissorhands (1990) and also wonderful animations like Corpse Bride (2005) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).

The Tim Burton Collective is a website with News and articles related to Tim Burton and his work, it has also information related to his early movies.

One of those early movies is Vincent (1982), a stop-motion animated movie shot in beautiful black and white, it was based on a poem Burton had written himself. The short film tells the sad tale of Vincent Malloy, a suburbanite boy who wants to be just like his idol, Vincent Price, the narration was provided by Vincent Price. Vincent was released on a small number screens by Disney, who were unsure how to market the morbid little film. Though few people saw it at the time, it played well at festivals and ultimately acted as Burton’s calling card in Hollywood. Thanks to you tube now it´s possible to everyone watch Vincent.

Another early Tim Burton movie is Frankenweenie (1984). An affectionate black and white homage to Frankenstein and other monster movies. Burton came up with the story, which tells the tale of a young Victor Frankenstein living in a typical suburb. When his beloved dog Sparky is run over by a car, Victor brings him back to life with science. However, in time-honoured monster movie tradition, he is misperceived as a threat to the community. But it all ends happily when the suburbanites realise Sparky is a good dead dog, and help return him to life a second time. Unfortunately, the film never saw a release at the time. Disney had planned to screen it before a re-release of Pinocchio, but that plan was cancelled when Frankenweenie was given a PG rating, making it “unsuitable” for younger kids. Thomas Broomé, is a Swedish artist who made a collection of ink illustrations called "Modern Mantra" where the scenes are made using the names of the objects being drawn to create the illustration.

He also made a series of locusts using cut-out and folded Coca-cola cans, a painted polymer sculpture of a man shot from behind, a dog and cat fused together where the dogs head furiosly chases the cats tail, and many other works.

Why Rubik's cubes ?
I feel it's a logical, and interesting, continuation of my work. Like Space Invaders, the Rubik's Cube is an 80s game made from colored squares. It's a fascinating object, as it's both extremely simple and extremely complex. Did you know there are over 43 billion possible permutations for a Rubik's Cube? I use the Rubik's Cube like an artist uses paint. I like the idea that it wasn't intended to be used this way, and that ultimately it works really well.

Do you show your work in institutions or galleries?
Yes. What you can see in the street is only part of what I do. I like to switch from one to the other, it's a way of doing different things. Right now I'm working on a project that uses Rubik's Cube, the Eighties cult puzzle, as the basis for pictures and sculptures. I call this my "RubikCubist" period.

The Commitments is a 1991 film directed by Alan Parker from the novel of the same name by Roddy Doyle, which tells the story of some unemployed Dubliners who form a soul band. The film was an international co-production between companies in Ireland, the UK and the USA.

Some of the band members from the movie (including the bassist and the original drummer) have since formed a group that tours under the name The Commitments.

The film runs for 113 minutes. In that time, the word "fuck" is used 145 times. Now you can watch a shortened version of The Commitments movie on You Tube. It's called "The Fookin Short Version".

Some attendees at FOO Camp event in Sebastopol in California had the information that google was going to do a flyover of the campus during the event date, so they took the opportunity to make some interesting art projects that would subsequently be visible from Google Maps and Google Earth, one of the projects they made is a scene from "Space Invaders" and the other a "Cylon raider".

The rumour is you'll be able to see the result using google maps or google earth sometime in the middle of February.

Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, was a famous American writer and cartoonist best known for his children's books, particularly The Cat in the Hat.

The Art of Dr. Seuss offers a rare glimpse into the artistic life of this celebrated American icon and chronicles almost seven decades of work that, in every respect, is uniquely, stylistically and endearingly “Seussian.” Works in this collection have been reproduced from significant public and private collections, including the University of California San Diego and the Estate of Dr. Seuss.

Dr. Seuss embarked on an ingenious project in the early 1930s as he evolved from two-dimensional artworks to three-dimensional sculptures. What was most unusual for these mixed-media sculptures was the use of real animal parts including beaks, antlers and horns from deceased Forest Park Zoo animals where Seuss’s father was superintendent.

Unorthodox Collection of Taxidermy was born in a cramped New York apartment and included a menagerie of inventive creatures with names like the “Two Horned Drouberhannis,” “Andulovian Grackler,” and “Semi-Normal Green-Lidded Fawn.” Shortly after Seuss created this unique collection of artworks, Look Magazine dubbed Seuss “The World’s Most Eminent Authority on Unheard-Of Animals.” To this day, Seuss’s Unorthodox Collection of Taxidermy remains as some of the finest examples of his inventive and multi-dimensional creativity.

Typically 'A' will stand for Apple, 'B' for Ball. It occurred to me that 'I' for Indian, one I remember from my childhood, has been replaced as it is no longer politically correct to refer to native/first/indigenous Americans as Indians.

Lacking any tact or decency, I therefore determined to create an alphabet using only subjects that, while they might have been unremarked a few decades ago, are now outside acceptable usage.

But only just. And then it was my intention to illustrate these in a 'modern' style, something along the lines of Dick Bruna's Miffy (OK, Miffy is 50, but still looks fresh).

Grind House fake trailers

Grind House is a 2007 film that consists of two segments, of which both are feature-length attractions.

One segment, Planet Terror, will be a zombie film written and directed by Robert Rodriguez.

The other segment, Death Proof, will be a slasher film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Between the two segments will be trailers advertising fake films. Tarantino has stated that fake trailers will be shot for a blaxploitation film, a kung fu film, a sexploitation movie and a Spaghetti Western film.

Grind House is expected to be released on April 6, 2007.

Denver Art Museum expansion

The Frederic C. Hamilton Building opened on October 7, 2006.

This expansion of the Denver Art Museum is the first building by architect Daniel Libeskind to be built in North America.

The 146,000 square foot building, covered in titanium panels, has four stories and houses both permanent and changing exhibits of contemporary fine art, American western art and African art.

The most unique and challenging aspect of constructing the building was assembly 2,740 tons of structural steel. Relatively few of these frame members were vertical.

Joseph Peragine

Joseph Peragine was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1961. He completed his undergraduate work in fine art at the University of Georgia, Athens, and in 1995 received his MFA in painting from Georgia State University, Atlanta.

Joseph Peragine's painting and sculpture - and now animation - have been presented in galleries, contemporary art spaces and museums throughout the country.

In 2001, Peragine was honored with an invitation to Beijing, China, to exhibit his work and participate in an international symposium on art and science hosted by Tsing Hua University and the National Museum of Fine Art of China.

During that same year, the City of Atlanta commissioned Peragine to create a permanent installation for Hartsfield International Airport. The installation, Brute Neighbors, garnered Peragine a 2002 Atlanta Urban Design Commission Award of Excellence for Public Art. Additionally, Art in America singled out Brute Neighbors as one of the best public art projects in 2001.

Jonathan den Breejen and Marenka Deenstra made PingPongPixel as their Graduation project at the University of Leiden.

PingPongPixel is a computer output device which makes pictures using 2700 ping-pong balls in 6 greytones!

By dispensing 45 new balls in the right order a line is formed. This line is being blown to the top of the display screen, and dropped on the balls already visible. This goes on untill a new picture is fully visible within 2.5 hours.

The complete illustrated story of how the original filming miniature was fully restored to it's former glory after more than a quarter century !

The original 44 inch Eagle Transporter, designed by Brian Johnson for the Gerry Anderson television series "Space 1999". This was the largest of the initial set of four scales deemed necessary for special effects filming. Built in 1973 by Space Models for a reportedly £3000, it was constructed from brass, wood, perspex, and aluminium.

This heavy duty model, weighing in at nearly 35 pounds, was the principal effects model during the first series of 24 episodes and was the first of a total of three 44" models built. For the 2nd series the model was renovated, different detailing was used inside the two central cages and extra pipework was added to the rear engine section.

The air-launched SpaceShipTwo is designed to seat eight people – six passengers and two pilots.

Grandma's revenge is a new interpretation of a good old kitchen dresser.

Grandma's revenge is the symbiosis of a kitchen and a dining room in one piece of furniture (h=2.5mb=2md=0.67m), that works on a basic size of 4 sqm.

Grandma's revenge is changed by different mechanisms from a picture into a three dimensional experience. A horizontal folding door opens up to the whole room at once which consists of a cooking area on the right, a combined dishwashing facility and a chopping board area are on the left and the desk is used as a depot area in the middle.

The kitchen equipment like oven, dishwasher, refrigerator…and the storage boards are set in drawers below the working area. Additionally the desk, chairs, and lamp can be pulled out up to a width of 1.1 m supported by a special touch mechanism that requires no more handle.

It might be utilized either for 1 person, for a family or for a 4 person diner.

This mysterious catamaran was designed by yacht designer Jim Antrim from Ugo Conti's original concept; it's 100 feet long and 50 feet wide; it's powered by twin diesel engines; the inflatable hulls were built by Arcata's Wing Inflatables; the craft was assembled in Anacortes, WA (where it was spotted several times during apparent sea trials); and it's capable of crossing oceans with "as much, if not more, stability than a normal catamaran,".
